WHEN BEREAVEMENT AND HOLIDAYS WALK TOGETHER
BY: Mary Lambrecht, M.S. LMFT and Dr. Patricia Dearman, Ph.D. LCSW, BCN
Sponsored by: Family Help Counseling and Seminars and The Woodlands Psychotherapy and Brain Training Clinic
Families sometimes experience the challenge of facing two seasons back-to-back: grieving a loved one and “celebrating” the holidays. Drawing from her own personal experience, as well as years of clinical practice, Mary will present current research, information, and practical guidelines in helping individuals and families through this paradox of celebration and sadness. Seminar participants will come away with deeper understanding, knowledge, and tools to cope with grief and to help the bereaved. Topics covered include: How Family Rules, Roles, and Rituals can complicate mourning during the holidays, General and Season-Specific Clinical Interventions for helping professionals to assist the bereaved, and ways that family members and others can give emotional, spiritual and practical help to a bereaved individual. In addition, Dr. Dearman will present on how anxiety plays a role in grief and loss, and ways to lessen the impact of anxiety on the mourning process. This Holiday season, come and learn how to cope with grief during the holidays and to more knowledgeably and compassionately assist a grieving one in navigating the crossroads of sorrow and celebration.
